Special Operations Rapid Intervention Team(R.I.T.) A rapid intervention team has been formed along with Oley and Birdsboro fire departments. The purpose of this team is to provide firefighters with a rescue team in accordance with NFPA1500, which contains the minium requirements and procedures for firefighter safety and health. The primary function of this team is recue injured, lost, and trapped firefighters. This will allow other local fire departments to redefine their response plans to include the dispatch of an additional company to incidents to standby as a R.I.T. The three companies train together using different scenarios to practice searching and finding firefighters loast and trapped in buildings. They utilize a thermal imaging camera to assist in the search for the victim(s). An automated electronic defibrillator is also cared by the team and is available if needed. Hazardous Materials Response Mount Penn Fire Company has recently put a county Haz-Mat trailer into service. This trailer is equipped various types of equipment and materials for absorbing and containing Hazardous Material leaks. A hazardous materials is a substance(solid, gas, and liquid) that when released is capable of causing harm to people, the environment, and property. In compliance with NFPA standard 472 the truck crew is trained in hazardous materials to the First Responder Operations level. Some of the functions include: 1) Having a knowledge of the basic hazard risk assessment techniques 2) Understanding basic hazardous materials terminology 3) Performing containment or confinement of a release within the capabilities of our resources 4) Knowing how to implement basic decontamination procedures In addition to the hazmat operations level training, 3 truck crew members
